Beginning June 23rd at Brigid’s House there will be an Intuitive Tarot Meetup every fourth Thursday of the month. I’m envisioning this group to have a kind of Tarot speed dating format. To begin with, there will be introductions all around so we can put names to faces. Next I’ll impart some helpful bits of wisdom about Tarot, symbolism, or some other aspect of Tarot designed to strengthening intuitive muscles. Following all that amusement will come actual Tarot readings where everyone pairs up for twenty minutes to read for one another before moving on to another partner. This is the speed dating part. While I doubt there will be too much in the way of romantic matchmaking, there will be plenty of merriment.
The interesting thing I’ve found about reading Tarot cards is how it now seems rather easy to read (generally speaking) for other people and really difficult to read for myself. I can do it if I commit to the effort, but often times a randy voice in my head will say something to me like, “Yep, got that Tower card again…so yeah, probably nothing will happen.” And I’m off looking for the Nine of Cups that I really like so well (also called the Wish Card or the Pip Card!) It can be difficult to be objective when you read for yourself.
And speaking of the Tower Card, while there are no “bad” cards theoretically in a Tarot Deck, there is still a reason that Kathy Dannel Vitcak who taught me how to read suggested that one should never make any sounds of alarm or comments of doom upon turning over certain cards, like Death, The Devil, the Three of Swords. It is taboo to suck in some breath and say, “Oh, Hmmm, TchTchTch.” But as with all things in Tarot, it can add to the fun when you are reading amongst friends! She never said anything about congratulating the querant upon getting the World Card or asking for an invitation to the party if they should get the Three of Cups, however.
With the development of any skill, the best way to improve is to practice, practice, practice. This Meetup is about playing, learning, and reveling in community. A spiritual journey can be difficult and lonely often times but why not acknowledge that parts are just plain old fun? Who doesn’t love colorful pictures and stories? For that is what Tarot cards are—paper and colored ink used to help us focus in on what is going on within, and to accept the help offered by the Divine (hence the term Divination).
I’ll be bringing extra decks to play with if you don’t have your own yet. So if you have any interest in Tarot, even if you’ve never held a deck before, please won’t you join us? If you are an old pro, won’t you please come and share your hard earned wisdom? Thursdays beginning June 23rd from 7:00pm until 9:00pm.
