There is a look, a moment captured on the face of a client, when I know there has been a break though and healing. Often following that look comes a deep silence, almost as if the wiring in the brain is being worked on and no words need be formed. This happened repeatedly last week and so it is on my mind now. There are some sessions where progress is made or something is revealed. Those sessions are quite necessary in the process of healing. But then there are the sessions where you know that the client has really chosen to walk a new path. As the Hypnotherapist, I feel honored to witness the change in their faces as they behold the new potentials shining down upon and illuminating this new wondrous place.

You could call it the “Mountain Top” experience. These people may even begin to look different—there is a kind of glow to them. The mountain top experience is part of our collective mythology. It is the journey to the highest place on earth closest to Heaven or to Spirit. It is there that special knowledge is imparted from a God Source and a transformation takes place. Moses stayed on the mountaintop for 40 days. Most of us can only stay there for an hour or two it seems. They say Moses shined so brightly it was hard to look at him. It would be a blessing indeed to see one that transfigured in my lifetime.

We hold tightly to those beliefs, habits, and behaviors that keep us from shining too brightly, to keep ourselves small. It takes a lot of courage to take that journey up to the top of the mountain. Often we are fortunate to just wander around the foothills taking in the occasional vista.

We do not wake up in the morning and add to our to-do list, “Journey to the mountain top.” Rather, it is a journey that happens when we are simply open to it. It happens when we trust the path we are on, stay steadfast and trust that should it take us to the top, we will have the courage of heart to look out, to listen, to see. The transformation, however, that just happens.
